Again,
the Story Begins in Building D
– From a Place of Memory to a Place for the Next Generation
On April 15, 2026, people gathered in front of Building D at UofN Jeju, looking upon a space that had been rebuilt after many years.
This day was not simply a celebration of a building’s completion. It was a moment in which a place holding the memories of one generation came back to life, while at the same time becoming a place of worship offered to God for a new beginning for the next generation.
As the service began, the community lifted up a song together:
“A new thing no one has ever seen
Is happening now upon this land
A wondrous thing no one has ever heard of
Is happening now
He makes a path in the wilderness
And streams in the desert
A new and wondrous thing
Is happening now upon this land”
This was more than just a song; it was a declaration of faith by the community for what God is about to do in this place.
This was a moment to look forward to God’s new beginning rather than just commemorating the past.
Thus, the Building D Completion Thanksgiving Service began.
A Place of Memory, Building D
The video shown after the service was not merely a construction record. It carried the meaning thatBuilding D held for each individual person.
For some, Building D was the first place where they learned to live in community.
For others, it was the place where they were broken and rebuilt before the Word of God.
One staff member shared: “For me, Building D is my DTS.” It was here that he heard God’s voice most clearly, and that encounter became the starting point of more than 17 years of ministry.
Another memory involved an event the entire community experienced together. Late one night, a sudden fire forced everyone to gather their belongings and evacuate outside. The fire was spreading toward Building D. But unexpectedly, the direction of the wind changed, and the fire naturally died out. “Even the firefighters said they had never seen anything like it before.” That event became more than a crisis. It remained as a memory of how the community experienced God together.
Building D was truly a “house where the life of a disciple was forged,” layered with laughter, tears, repentance, and commitment.
A Halted Space, Rebuilt Once More
As time passed, however, this space had to come to a halt. Built in 1998, Building D had aged significantly after many years of use, and structural and facility-related issues made it difficult for young people to continue living there.
Eventually, the building stood empty for quite some time, and the community felt deep sadness and regret as they watched it remain unused. We were then faced with a question: “Should we leave this space as it is, or restore it to welcome the next generation?”
We chose to restore it.
The remodeling of Building D officially began on October 15, 2025, when UofN Jeju staff members personally started the demolition work.
The process of tearing down, clearing out, and reorganizing the space was not just construction work. It was a time to pull out old memories and prepare for new stories.
This was not a project outsourced to professionals.
Staff members rolled up their sleeves, volunteers joined together, and through work duties, the entire community built the space together.
Despite the cold winter, unfamiliar labor, and physical exhaustion, many people faithfully joined the journey.
A Space Built Together
During the remodeling process, God made one thing clear to the community:
“Do this together.” Whether one had professional skills or not, what mattered was joining hands to build together. Hansoo Kang, who led the overall remodeling process, shared: “Everyone here can say, ‘I built a part of this building.’”
Building D is not the achievement of a single person, but the fruit of the obedience and devotion of the entire community.
A Time of Thanksgiving
After the video presentation, there was a time of thanksgiving for those who had served throughout the journey.
The names —
Yeojin Ko, Wookyung Kim, Jaeho Shin, Hyungmo Ahn, Inchan Yeoh, Changhwa Yeoh,
Hansoo Kang, Junghye Kim, Myunghwan Yang, Kijoon Jung, Yongjin Cho
— and all UofN staff were called one by one.
As each name was announced, the community responded with applause and small gifts of appreciation. Afterward, three people who had directly participated in the construction work — Hansoo Kang, Jaeho Shin, and Yeojin Ko — shared their reflections. Each person spoke about what they experienced, what they learned, and what God had placed on their hearts, testifying that this journey was not simply about constructing a building, but about building a community.
Message from the Campus Director
Following this, Campus Director Seokgeon Park shared a message.
Reflecting on the remodeling process, emphasizing that this work was a ministry undertaken by the entire community.
“This work could have been inconvenient. It could have reduced efficiency, distracted us, and exhausted us. But through that inconvenience and exhaustion, a home for the community was built, and an environment was created where others can minister in this place.”
He also emphasized an important lesson the community had learned:
“Without someone else’s service, we can do nothing on our own.”
Through this process, the community learned that the ministry they now enjoy is possible only because of the unseen service of others, and that such service is deeply precious in God’s eyes. He also shared that this journey was not merely about constructing a building, but about humbling ourselves.
“Through service that tired our hands and feet, we not only created the environment the community needed, but also entered a place of humility ourselves.”
He concluded by stating that this journey does not end here.
“Our Work Duty will continue.”
Completion,and a New Beginning
On April 15, 2026, after passing through all these moments together, we stood before the rebuilt Building D and worshiped God. Completion was not the end, but the beginning. Now we look forward with expectation: To hearing the laughter of young people filling this place once again, To hearing late-night prayers rise once more, And to seeing lives broken and rebuilt before the Word of God. One staff shared: “Just as the building has been renewed, I believe God is beginning a new work among us.”
Again, in Building D
Building D is not just a renovated structure. It is a place where young people will once again encounter God, discover their calling, and begin lives sent out to the nations.
Just as stories once began here before, new stories will begin here again. And we believe that through this place, God will once again raise up the next generation.
That story is beginning now, once again here, in Building D.
